Why you need to be in Agen this summer

Why you need to be in Agen this summer

Over the past 10 years, I have regularly written about The Agen Workshop and why this conference has a special place in my heart. Today, I want to focus on what you can expect from a CI conference located in France.

This year’s conference will be from July 22-27, 2024.

Attend a language lab either as a student and/or as an observer. You will experience being a language learner all over again with master teachers— a professional life-changing experience! You also get a chance to debrief with a trained facilitator and the language lab teacher once the student have left. I have personally learned so much by observing labs.

  • Russian with Michele Whaley and Victoria Maximova
  • Mandarin with Dr. Reed Riggs
  • French for French teachers/Advanced speakers with Hélène  Colinet
  • French with Cécile Lainé
  • Breton with Daniel Logsdon-Dubois
  • English with Lisa Horvath
  • German with Antje Peterie
  • Dutch without translation with Janique Vanderstocken
  • Spanish with Dahiana Castro

Food from the Southwest of France is one of my favorite in the world. With a two-hour lunch à-la-française you have time to enjoy the food, share about your experiences, get to know the people, and develop long-lasting relationships. Or you can go take a nap!

There are hourlong sessions about specific topics (reading, listening, storytelling, games, etc.), as well as coaching sessions where you can try a skill or technique you have learned about in the language lab or during a session.

Some evenings you may attend extra sessions, some evenings you may decide to have a nice glass of wine by yourself or with company, and some evenings you may want to explore this beautiful town and even perhaps bump into the mayor! And if you are looking for a fun dance exercise, I will be also offering short Zumba sessions, including some Manie Musicale songs 🙂

So, what are you waiting for?

See you at The Agen Workshop in 2024!

Thank you for your support, Cecile. I see a lot of comments from teachers saying Agen is on their bucket list or ‘someday.’ Perhaps I need to be honest and admit that it has never been a money making operation and I’m not sure that it will be able to go on many more years.

I am going to really try to come this summer. I do worry that my diet may cause a small revolution (I’m vegan) but I am willing to try!

Actually, quite a few people who come to Agen are vegan and everyone’s favorite restaurant, Le Quarts, offers a wide selection of vegan dishes along with non-vegan dishes.
